Babur

Babur: (1483 - 1531)

Zahir ud-din Muhammad Babur (1483 - 1531) was a Muslim conqueror from Central Asia who, following a series of setbacks finally succeeded in laying the basis for the Mughal dynasty of South Asia.

  • Babur was born on 14 February 1483 in 'Fargana', the princely state of Trans Oxiana. Babur's father Omar Sheikh Mirza was the ruler of Fargana. His mother's name was 'Kutlugh Nigar Khanam'. Babur was the 5th descendant of 'Taimur Lang' from the ancestral side and on the mother's side he was the 14th descendant of Chenghis Khan (Mongol). Hence Babur had a mixture of blood of both Turks and Mongols. Babur ascended the throne of Fargana in 1494 AD at the age of 11 after the death of his father.. Thus he was a direct descendant of Timur through his father and a descendant of Genghis Khan through his mother.
